Reporting to: Registered Manager and Nurse in Charge

Basic skills: (including numeracy, literacy and English speaking abilities.)

General responsibilities: In addition to the job description for care assistant.

 

To contribute to the efficient operation of the Home and organisation of the shift.

Supervise residents at mealtimes ensuring they have satisfactory intake of nutrition consistent with their preferences and needs.

To contribute and participate in staff meetings/staff training.

To adhere to Home Policies and Procedures.

To observe the conditions of employment and Health and Safety Policy, ensuring safe practice and guiding others.  Carry out manual handling in accordance with training and in house policy.

To give support and guidance to new or junior staff, constantly during their induction period.

To enhance and promote the clients quality of life.

To work under the supervision of the Nurse in Charge and the Head of Care.

To be caring, sympathetic and tactful when dealing with clients and relatives. To promote dignity privacy, respect and choice.

To assist clients with their personal care giving help in areas of bathing, washing, dressing maintaining personal hygiene and sanitary requirements.

To report and record relevant information, relaying any concerns to the senior members of staff.

To take care of the Home, its contents and consider the appearance of the Home and promote best practice.

To consider economy and financial balance.

To ensure that the bedrooms are clean and tidy including wardrobes and drawers.

To treat clients individually with respect and preserve dignity.

To support the Head of Care to promote team work.

To act as a role model – to lead by example.

To allocate tasks and ensure they are carried out properly.

To ensure equipment is stored appropriately and any defective equipment / building faults are reported promptly to maintenance.

To maintain confidentiality at all times.

To promote good anti-discriminatory practice.

NB:    Notwithstanding the detail of this job description there will be a requirement for the jobholder to undertake other duties consistent with their level of responsibility.  This will be done in consultation with the jobholder.
